After bidding farewell to Jose Rizal University, William Sy has set his sights on a new chapter in his NCAA career by transferring to Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU). The 21-year-old guard will undergo a one-year residency before donning the Pirates’ jersey in Season 101, bringing with him a wealth of talent and potential to the team.
Standing at 5 feet 9 inches, Sy showcased his skills and determination during his stint with the Heavy Bombers in Seasons 98 and 99. Now, he looks forward to continuing his collegiate basketball journey with the Pirates, where he aims to make a significant impact on the court.
In an interview with GMA Integrated News, Sy revealed his decision to transfer to LPU, citing his desire to further develop his abilities and contribute to his new team’s success. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the coaching staff and players at LPU, emphasizing the positive environment that influenced his decision.
“After I properly left my previous school, which I still love, I started looking for a school. I just wanted to keep getting better and I just wanted to work on myself… I was able to visit schools where the coaches and players are kind, and I learned a lot. I finally tried out for LPU through the assistance of coach Denok Miranda of FEU and Coach MC Caceres of LPU. And it’s a good thing the coaches liked what I had,” Sy shared.
Sy’s arrival at LPU presents a promising opportunity for both the player and the team. With his talent and dedication, he is poised to make a significant contribution to the Pirates’ roster, bolstering their lineup alongside standout players like Mclaude Guadaña, John Barba, John Bravo, and Gyle Montaño.
