The Toronto Raptors’ rookie sensation, Scottie Barnes, may have seen his season cut short due to a fractured left hand, the team announced on Monday. Following further testing, Barnes underwent surgery to repair the third metacarpal bone in his left hand, conducted by Dr. Steve Shin in Los Angeles.
While Barnes has not been ruled out for the remainder of the season, the need for surgery suggests that he will likely face an extended period of recovery. The injury occurred during a game against the Golden State Warriors last Friday when Barnes was accidentally kicked in the hand by Immanuel Quickley while contesting a layup attempt by Jonathan Kuminga.
If Barnes is indeed sidelined for the remainder of the season, he will conclude his rookie year having played in all of Toronto’s first 60 games. Throughout the season, Barnes has been a standout performer, averaging 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc. Impressively, he leads the team in total points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals as of Monday.
Despite the setback, Barnes’ impact on the Raptors has been undeniable, and his absence will be keenly felt as the team navigates the remainder of the season. Raptors fans will eagerly await updates on Barnes’ recovery and hope for a swift return to action for the promising rookie.
