In a stellar performance at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Rosegie Ramos of the Philippines showcased her strength and determination, securing a silver and a bronze medal. The 20-year-old weightlifter’s impressive showing not only adds accolades to her name but also strengthens her bid for the Paris Olympics.
Ramos’s silver medal came in the snatch category, where she lifted an impressive 88 kilograms. She followed this with a formidable 102-kilogram lift in the clean and jerk, securing a bronze medal. Her combined total of 190 kilograms earned her recognition on the podium alongside North Korean Ri Song Gum, who clinched gold with a 220-kilogram total, and Japanese lifter Rira Suzuki, who took the silver with a 191-kilogram total.
This outstanding performance propels Ramos into the top 5 globally in her weightlifting division, specifically the women’s 49kg category. As the competition for coveted spots in the Paris Olympics intensifies, Ramos’s success positions her as a strong contender for a berth in the quadrennial Games.
Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella expressed his optimism, stating, “She is now in the top 5 in the world in Paris. Onwards to Paris.” Ramos’s achievement not only reflects her individual excellence but also contributes to the growing prominence of Filipino athletes on the international stage.
