In a significant move, Rey Nambatac bids farewell to Rain or Shine after being part of a trade deal that sends him to Blackwater.
Approved by the PBA on Wednesday, the trade sees Nambatac heading to the Bossing, while the Elasto Painters acquire Blackwater’s Season 49 first-round pick and Season 50 second-round pick.
Nambatac’s departure from Rain or Shine marks the conclusion of his longstanding tenure with the team, which began in 2017 when he was selected as the seventh overall pick.
The former Letran standout’s move to Blackwater also brings about a reunion with his former Rain or Shine teammate, James Yap, who recently parted ways with the team to join Blackwater.
Throughout his time with Rain or Shine, Nambatac proved himself as a dependable local player. In the Commissioner’s Cup campaign, he contributed significantly, averaging 8.45 points, 2.45 rebounds, and 2.45 assists, aiding the team in reaching the quarterfinals before falling to San Miguel in a tough matchup.
