De La Salle University’s journey in UAAP Season 86 started on a triumphant note as they secured a commanding victory over Adamson University, but the significance of the win extended far beyond the court. For long-time head coach Ramil De Jesus, it marked a historic milestone as he clinched his 300th win in the league.
In a post-match interview, De Jesus expressed his surprise upon learning about the achievement, stating, “I don’t keep count, but in my 27 years in La Salle, I might have reached that number.” Despite the impressive milestone, De Jesus humbly emphasized that his focus has always been on nurturing his players and ensuring their development on and off the court.
“For me, providing the players with good conditions and performance is enough. It’s not about reaching a certain number of wins,” De Jesus remarked, underscoring his commitment to player development and character building.
Throughout his tenure with the Lady Spikers, De Jesus has garnered 12 UAAP titles, establishing a powerhouse program that has produced some of the country’s top volleyball talents. However, beyond the accolades and victories, De Jesus values the lessons and values instilled in his players.
“What I want people to remember is that my players are smart, and they carry themselves well. I am meticulous about those things,” De Jesus shared, visibly moved by the significance of his coaching journey.
