Pinoy surfer Jay-R Esquivel has once again made waves in the surfing scene by emerging victorious in the Men’s Longboard Qualifying Series 1000 division of the World Surf League Baler International Pro 2024. The event took place at Sabang Beach-Baler, Aurora.
Esquivel’s exceptional skills were on full display as he outperformed Japanese surfer Kai Hamase with an impressive score of 17.40 to 15.65, securing the title through a combination of talent and determination.
This victory marked a significant achievement for Esquivel, who stood out as the lone Filipino winner in the inaugural World Surf League (WSL) Baler International Pro. His success in the men’s longboard qualifying series (LQS) adds to his recent triumph in the La Union International Pro LQS, where he successfully defended his title at Urbiztondo Beach, Monalisa Point on January 26.
Hailing from La Union, Esquivel’s win against tough competition from around the world, including Japan’s Hamase, highlights his prowess in the sport. His final score of 17.40 secured the trophy on local shores, solidifying his status as a rising star in the surfing community.
