PBA MVP and Champion James Yap ends his tenure with Rain or Shine in search for his next chapter.
Yap concluded his stint with Rain or Shine on January 19, in a 127-122 loss to San Miguel during the Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals. When asked about his future plans, the 41-year-old councilor from San Juan mentioned he hasn’t made a decision yet.
Acquired by the Elasto Painters in 2016, Yap’s playing time diminished over the seasons. Despite taking a hiatus for a successful councilorship bid, he returned for the 2023 Governors’ Cup on a one-conference deal, playing limited minutes.
On Monday, the Elasto Painters conveyed their thanks to the two-time PBA MVP by stating on their social media post: “From his early days with Welcoat in the PBL to becoming an integral part of the Rain or Shine family in the PBA, James Yap has left an indelible mark on our franchise” acknowledging his eight-year tenure with the team, previously recognized as Welcoat.
Reports now suggest the possibility of him joining another PBA team after being released by his current club.
