Filipino tennis talent Francis Alcantara is set to vie for a spot in the semifinals of the Bengaluru Tennis Open doubles event in India, alongside his partner, Japanese player Kaichi Uchida. The duo is poised to face the Australian pair of Adam Walton and Tristan Schoolkate in a highly anticipated quarterfinal clash on Thursday afternoon.
Alcantara and Uchida will confront a formidable challenge in Walton and Schoolkate, who demonstrated their prowess by stunning the tournament’s top-seeded pair, South Korea’s Chung Yun-Seong and France’s Dan Added, in a commanding fashion. The Australian tandem secured a convincing victory over the top-seeded duo, triumphing with a straight-sets win of 6-3, 6-3 during Wednesday’s action.
Meanwhile, Alcantara and Uchida progressed to the quarterfinal stage of the Indian tournament following a hard-fought victory over South Korea’s Hong Seong-chan and Hong Kong’s Chak Lam Coleman Wong. The Filipino-Japanese duo displayed resilience and determination to secure a win in a closely contested match, prevailing with a scoreline of 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 in their favor.
Having recently faced disappointment at the Chennai Open ATP, where they were eliminated after a defeat to Taiwan’s Yu Hsiou Hsu and India’s Arjun Kadhe, Alcantara and Uchida are eager to bounce back and make a strong impression at the Bengaluru Tennis Open. With their sights set on advancing to the semifinals, the duo aims to showcase their skills and tenacity on the court.
In terms of rankings, Schoolkate currently holds the 170th position in doubles play, while Walton is rated 157th. Alcantara, on the other hand, occupies the 171st spot in the world doubles rankings, having recently experienced a slight dip from his career-high position of 169th.
