Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned Portuguese footballer, has been suspended for one match and fined by the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) following an incident during Al Nassr’s recent match against Al Shabab.
The disciplinary action comes after Ronaldo was captured on footage making what appeared to be an obscene gesture towards the opposing fans after Al Nassr’s 3-2 victory over Al Shabab. In the video, Ronaldo can be seen cupping his ear and making repeated thrusting motions near his pelvis, directed towards the crowd.
As per the committee’s decision, Ronaldo will serve a one-match suspension and is required to pay a fine of 10,000 Saudi riyals (equivalent to USD 2,666) to the Football Association. Additionally, he must pay 20,000 riyals (approximately USD 5,332) to Al-Shabab to cover the expenses associated with filing the complaint. The ruling stipulates that the decision is not subject to appeal.
The incident has sparked debate and garnered attention across the footballing world, especially considering Ronaldo’s high-profile status in the sport. Since joining Al-Nassr from Manchester United last year, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been a focal point of the Saudi Pro League, attracting significant media coverage and fan interest.
