University of Sto. Tomas’ Cassie Carballo and National University’s Joshua Retamar have been recognized for their outstanding performances on the volleyball court, earning the distinction of UAAP Players of the Week for their exemplary playmaking skills.
Carballo, the talented setter for UST’s women’s volleyball team, played a pivotal role in the Golden Tigresses’ recent victory, propelling them to an undefeated 4-0 record in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament. In their thrilling five-set triumph against Far Eastern University, Carballo showcased her exceptional playmaking ability, tallying an impressive 25 excellent sets while also contributing five aces and three attacks to secure the win.
Meanwhile, Retamar, the standout setter for NU’s men’s volleyball team, made a significant impact in their back-to-back wins against Adamson and UP in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament. Displaying his prowess on the court, Retamar delivered 31 excellent sets in NU’s four-set victory over Adamson, demonstrating his ability to orchestrate the offense effectively. In their subsequent sweep of UP, Retamar achieved a career-high performance, recording 12 points and 20 excellent sets to further solidify his reputation as one of the league’s top setters.
Both Carballo and Retamar’s exceptional contributions were instrumental in guiding their respective teams to winning records during the specified period, showcasing their skill, determination, and leadership on the volleyball court.
