Rising Filipino basketball star Andy Gemao has received a prestigious invitation to participate in the 8th Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Global camp, set to take place as part of the NBA All-Star 2024 festivities in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gemao, touted as one of the top high school prospects in the Philippines, joins a select group of 40 promising young talents from around the world who will converge at the Mojo Up Sports Complex from February 16 to 18 for the BWB Global camp.
As the sole representative from the Philippines, Gemao will have the opportunity to showcase his skills alongside peers from Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The BWB Global camp has served as a launching pad for numerous NBA stars, including Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Deandre Ayton of the Portland Trail Blazers, and Rui Hachimura of the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to the NBA, the camp will feature a series of activities designed to enhance the players’ skills and provide valuable experiences both on and off the court. Participants will engage in athletic testing, skill development stations, shooting competitions, and 5-on-5 games, all under the guidance of current and former NBA and WNBA players, as well as esteemed coaches and mentors such as Joakim Noah and Detlef Schrempf.
Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Gemao emphasized how blessed he feels to be part of the global camp. This invitation comes on the heels of Gemao’s participation in the 13th BWB Asia event held in June 2023, further underscoring his rising status as a promising talent in Philippine basketball.
