G-League standout Mac McClung wowed the crowd and judges alike on Saturday night as he clinched his second consecutive NBA Slam Dunk Contest victory with a perfect score of 50 on his final dunk.
McClung’s winning dunk came in spectacular fashion as he leaped over NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, snatched the ball from O’Neal’s hands mid-air, and executed a breathtaking reserve slam dunk. All five judges awarded McClung a perfect score for his electrifying performance during All-Star Saturday Night at Indianapolis.
Representing the Osceola Magic in the G-League, McClung outshone Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown in the final round to secure his back-to-back dunk contest triumphs. His repeat victory marks a rare feat in the competition, with McClung becoming the first repeat winner since Zach LaVine accomplished the feat in 2015-16.
In a display of creativity and athleticism, Brown paid tribute to former Kentucky player Terrence Clarke with his first dunk attempt, scoring 48.6 for a stylish 360-dunk while wearing a jersey honoring Clarke, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2021. McClung responded with a powerful dunk over two individuals, earning a score of 48.8.
Brown’s final attempt featured Cleveland Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell as a prop, as Brown leaped over him and finished with a left-handed dunk, scoring 49.2. However, it was McClung’s flawless execution and show-stopping final dunk that ultimately sealed the victory for him.
During the current season, McClung has been a standout performer for the Osceola Magic, averaging an impressive 23.7 points and 7.2 assists per game in 14 appearances. While his NBA aspirations continue, McClung’s prowess on the court and captivating dunking abilities have undoubtedly solidified his status as a fan favorite and dunk contest sensation.
