Veteran point guard Baser Amer has found a new home in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) after officially signing with the NLEX Road Warriors.
Amer’s move to NLEX comes shortly after his departure from the Blackwater Bossing, marking a fresh start for the former San Beda star in the upcoming PBA season.
The announcement of Amer’s signing was made by the NLEX Road Warriors on Tuesday, solidifying their roster for the upcoming competitions. The 29-year-old point guard sealed the deal on Monday night during NLEX’s camp at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.
For Amer, joining NLEX feels like a homecoming, given his previous ties with the team in the PBA Developmental League (D-League). During his stint with NLEX in the D-League, Amer showcased his talent and leadership, guiding the Road Warriors to three championship titles.
Expressing his excitement about the new chapter in his career, Amer stated, “Masaya ako na makasama sila Coach Frankie (Lim) at mga iba pang Bedista dito sa NLEX. Gagawin ko ang best ko para makuha namin yung championship,” which translates to “I am happy to be with Coach Frankie and other Bedans here in NLEX. I will do my best to help us win the championship.”
Amer’s addition to the NLEX roster bolsters the team’s backcourt and brings valuable experience to the squad. He will team up with fellow guard Robert Bolick as they aim to lead NLEX to a successful campaign in the upcoming PBA All-Filipino Conference.
During the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Amer played five games for Blackwater, averaging 4.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per contest. With his skills and leadership on the court, Amer is expected to make significant contributions to NLEX’s quest for success in the upcoming season.
Present at Amer’s contract signing were key figures from the NLEX management, including president Jose Luigi L. Bautista, team governor Ronald Dulatre, team manager Larry Fonacier, and head coach Frankie Lim.
