National University-Nazareth School’s Collins Akowe has secured the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the UAAP Season 86 boys’ basketball tournament, marking a back-to-back achievement for the Bullpups.
Following in the footsteps of his teammate Reinhard Jumamoy, Akowe, the towering Cameroonian center, has proven himself as the standout player among his high school peers, amassing an impressive 96.7 statistical points for the season.
Standing at 6-foot-10, Akowe dominated the competition with remarkable double-double averages of 17.14 points and 21.07 rebounds per game, complemented by 2.21 blocks and 1.64 assists. His outstanding performance makes him the first foreign student-athlete to claim the MVP title in UAAP juniors basketball history.
“I promised my coach I would give him the championship. I made that promise from the very beginning,” Akowe expressed. “I need to fulfill my promise. I need to give it all I have to win the championship.”
Despite his stellar efforts, Akowe’s Bullpups faced a setback in Game 1 of the ongoing finals against Adamson, falling short with a score of 77-71. As of posting time, Game 2 is underway.
Joining Akowe in the Mythical Team are other standout players including Kieffer Alas from De La Salle Zobel, Kristian Porter from Ateneo High School, Doy Dungo from University of Santo Tomas, and Tebol Garcia from Adamson.
